“At the Akra restaurant, I redefined the function of a restaurant. Here, the act of cooking is not hidden but highlighted on kitchen counters that are arranged around the perimeter of the space. Guests dine in the center, enjoying the sight of those cooking around them, in a posture that recalls parents cooking for their children at home. The restaurant transforms into a large public home. The intimacy of domestic life extends to the city.”
